Wines that pair well with…

In 2005 after two decades of building their highly acclaimed flagship Napa Valley estate, Amici Cellars’ proprietors John Harris and Bob Shepard launched its sister brand Olema, a distinct collection of wines that are focused on fruit and terroir, well-balanced in structure, excellent everyday wines. The 2019 Olema Chardonnay and 2018 Olema Pinot Noir showcase the best of Sonoma County winemaking, the wines pairing perfectly with autumn’s comfort-food season and heartier dishes. Olema’s Chardonnay has a rich and creamy palate with notes of Golden Delicious apple and ripe pear balanced by bright acidity and a long, zesty finish; the Olema Pinot Noir is a medium-bodied wine with lively, bright flavors, soft tannins, and a silky-smooth finish.

After a long day working to bring in this year’s grape harvest, Olema’s winemaking team sat down with our friends at Cowgirl Creamery and Rustic Bakery to share some perfect pairings. Here are our favorites:

  • Olema Rosé + Cowgirl Creamery’s Mt. Tam cheese + Rustic Bakery’s Rosemary and Olive Oil crackers – or – Cowgirl Creamery’s Red Hawk cheese + Rustic Bakery’s Apricot, Pistachio and Brandy Artisan crackers
  • Olema Chardonnay + Cowgirl Creamery’s Red Hawk cheese + Rustic Bakery’s Everything Spice crackers
  • Olema Pinot Noir + Cowgirl Creamery’s Mt. Tam cheese + Tart Cherry, Cacao Nib and Almond Artisan crisps
  • Olema Cabernet Sauvignon + Cowgirl Creamery’s Chimney Rock cheese + Everything Spice crackers – or – Rustic Bakery’s seasonal Maple Leaves and Pumpkin cookies

Cheese that reflects the bounty of Marin County

Twenty five years ago, Cowgirl Creamery started with a dream shared between two college friends and business partners (Sue Conley & Peggy Smith) – to celebrate organic practices and spotlight the craftsmanship of local sustainable agriculture in Marin and Sonoma counties. Today, we’re carrying the torch of the food revolution that started in our backyard. Organic. Farm-to-Table. Delicious, award-winning cheese. It’s in our DNA. And it defines our famous creations, including the beloved triple cream Mt. Tam. Cowgirl’s organic cheeses are available nationwide wherever fine cheese is sold, including restaurants, as well as their two retail/cafe locations (Point Reyes Station and San Francisco, Calif.), and their online shop. Cowgirl Creamery’s Classic Cowgirl Collection is their most popular trio – Mt. Tam, Chimney Rock and Red Hawk – always local, always organic and always a treat for cheese lovers.

The accompaniment to fine cheese

Carol LeValley and Josh Harris started Rustic Bakery on a whim in 2005. The couple found their passion for baking in a simple sourdough flatbread cracker that Carol would whip up for friends. They stopped in at the San Francisco Ferry Building outlet of Cowgirl Creamery, and mentioned to owners Peggy and Sue that their cheeses deserved artisan crackers. The Cowgirls bit, literally, into a sourdough flatbread and immediately placed an order for 50 cases. The rest is a match made in heaven with Rustic Bakery Crackers and Cowgirl Creamery cheeses being the classic go-to for wine country pairings. Rustic Bakery’s Cheeseboard Collection includes everything you need for the perfect cheeseboard, a selection of Flatbread, Flatbread Bites, Artisan Crips and Cheese Coins – just add your favorite wine and cheese! Rustic Bakery’s fall-inspired Maple Leaves and Pumpkin cookies provide the sweet finish.

A harvest picnic

Founded in 2014 by Nicole Hughes and Anne Siegel, who share the belief that living in wine country is a state of mind, and that the simple act of saying ‘cheers’ can bring you closer together. Olive and Poppy’s pieces are made from locally sourced materials, reimagined as thoughtfully creative gift items. Olive and Poppy’s Appellation Tote Bag is the perfect size to take to the farmers’ market, or pack with cheese, crackers and wine for a harvest-inspired picnic. The interior wine sleeve keeps your favorite bottle of vino upright, and the zipper pocket can hold your cheese knives.

Capture the scent of fall

Napa Valley husband and wife team Jess and Morocco gracefully juggle their bustling business with their growing family of six kids! What started as a hobby, is now the family business with Gold Hill Candle Co. garnering national attention from the likes of Oprah Winfrey. Gold Hill Candle’s seasonal Falling Leaves Soy Candle is a modern classic reminiscent of an autumn walk through the trees. Guaiacwood and cedar are accented with notes of apple, spices, berries and patchouli on a base of sweet musk.
